Emily Faith: A Look Back

There’s this girl.

She made her hold on my heart permanent one chilly February day when she entered this world after a slow and relatively uneventful journey. A tiny redhead, born to new yet wholly devoted parents.

Within days they were madly in love and in awe of her precious beauty.

There was never a sweeter baby. She was the baby that made all the other mommas comment wistfully that they wished their little would sleep so easily or play so happily. Perfection.

Within months she had captivated all who knew her with her personality and sweetness.

She, like her momma, was early everywhere she went… early in teething, crawling, walking. She took the world by storm and moved forward in her life with grace and ease.

As her little body grew bigger and stronger, her personality began to emerge to the fullest. Humor, happiness, charm and an undeniable touch of mischevious.

She could play and love with the best of them. Her passion for being outdoors began the moment her daddy started taking her out to the backyard each day. From then on, she would fuss by the back door every moment that the sun was shining. It was the first of her spirit that she would pass on to her mother, although likely not the last.

And, oh, she loved her momma and daddy.

She adored people. Mornings at the park would find her asking her momma sweetly when “friends” were going to come, and then smiling broadly and happily when any child appeared to play.

The moment when she left babyhood and entered childhood slipped by so quickly, leaving her momma shaking her head at this bittersweet injustice.

Thankfully, those gigantic hazel eyes and everything else that made her so glorious traveled with her into the next phase of life.

She even picked up two small brothers along the way, giving them millions of kisses and bossing them around plenty.

Somewhere along the way in this journey of her little princess’s young life, her mother’s love for her transformed from sweet love to something inexplicably greater.

This beauty of a child. The world belonged to her.

She loved to try on her momma’s makeup and help pick out her clothes.

“Mommy?” she asked one day.

“Yes, sweetheart?” her momma replied.

Can I stay with you forever?

Sometimes her mother silently watched her little girl, in awe at this adorable little creature and wondering why she had been blessed this way.

This beautiful little angel turns 5 years old on February 18, 2013.

Halfway through her final year of preschool, she can’t wait to learn everything there is to know about this world.

As her momma, I know I am slightly biased. But she is a magnificent little being.

The amazing things she says, the precious and sweet way that she cares for her brothers, the thoughtful way she looks after friends and family, her remarkable mind and sense of humor, her inner and outer beauty…

these are just some of the reasons why she makes my heart flutter and my breath catch with emotion when I think about her.

Happy 5th birthday to my firstborn, my precious angel, my little peach.

She is so beautiful. It’s amazing how fast they grow up. My girls are in their 20′s. My oldest gave me my first grandchild. I look at her with different eyes than I did my daughters. It’s so amazing the things you learn by the time you become a grandmother. It seems the time is so much more fleeting and she seems to be growing up quicker than my daughters did. I am truly amazed by her. I’ve learned in my becoming a grandmother to grab hold of her with both hands and hang on as tight as I can because it’s gone in a blink of an eye. Enjoy your precious Emily, capture every moment. Happy Birthday Emily =D
